Short Take: Charter to buy Helicon Cable

Charter Communications, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's cable company, plans to buy Helicon Cable Communications for $550 million. The privately held Helicon has about 171,000 subscribers in eight Southern and East coast states. Charter will have more than 3 million cable subscribers with a strong presence in Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana, and the Carolinas after a series of recent acquisitions close.
