Short Take: Charter posts first-quarter loss

Charter Communications, a major cable operator, posted a first-quarter net loss of $180.1 million, or 81 cents per share, on revenues of $721.6 million. The results reflected the acquisition of Bresnan Communications. On a pro forma basis, taking into account 11 acquisitions made last year, Charter's first-quarter revenues increased to $759.2 million, up from $711.2 million a year ago. The company serves 6.1 million basic cable TV customers and 123,000 high-speed Internet subscribers.
