Short Take: BellSouth interested in Sprint assets

BellSouth may be looking to buy a piece of Sprint if that company is acquired by MCI WorldCom, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Sprint owns local phone properties in Florida and the Carolinas--both inside BellSouth's local territory. The local phone company also may be interested in some long distance and Internet assets, the report said. MCI WorldCom would likely have to shed its Net assets in order to win regulators' approval for a merger with Sprint, analysts say.
