Today Schlage announced that its $229 Sense Smart Deadbolts are available for preorder on Amazon, Home Depot and Build.

We first spied this latest Schlage creation at CES 2015 and while it doesn't deviate a lot from the brand's existing models in terms of looks, it has new tech that should make it more competitive in the smart lock industry.

Specifically, where the $199 Schlage Camelot Touchscreen Deadbolt we reviewed in 2013 relies on Z-Wave for smart control, the Sense Smart is outfitted with Bluetooth for close-range remote lock access. It's also HomeKit-enabled , meaning that you should be able to say, "Siri, lock/unlock my door" on your compatible iOS device of choice for a voice control alternative to the regular remote functions performed by the Schlage Sense iOS app.

With Apple's iOS 8 software, you had to have at least a third-gen Apple TV to allow for remote Siri control of your HomeKit-compatible devices. Schlage's official press release confirms that an Apple TV will still be a requirement for anyone interested in accessing their locks remotely via Siri, even though iOS 9 makes it possible for you to use your iCloud Keychain instead. Hopefully, Schlage will update its features to match the newest version of HomeKit soon.

Preordered Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolts are slated to ship in early November and they should appear on shelves in Home Depot and Lowe's stores around the same time. The $229 Sense Smart locks are available in two trim styles and in black, nickel or bronze. We're already tracking down review units for the CNET Smart Home, so check back soon for updates.
