Sand Technology hires CFO

Montreal-based data analysis company Sand Technology announced Monday that it hired Bernd Beyer as vice president and chief financial officer. Beyer, who has a Master of Business Administration degree from McGill University in Montreal, was previously a senior manager of financial strategy for a major Canadian bank and an audit specialist for consulting firm Arthur Andersen. With its flagship Nucleus data management system and customers including British Telecommunications and Merrill Lynch, Sand Technology software automates supply chain management, inventory and production, financial analysis and strategic planning. The science surrounding the analysis--also called "data mining"--is emerging as one of the hottest niches in e-commerce, and dozens of firms in the United States, Canada and Europe are scrambling for market position and venture funding.
