Remember the Editor's Choice Award-winninglaptop? Well Samsung has replaced it with an even better model -- the Q70. There it is on the right, looking all shiny and delightful.
It uses Intel's new Centrino Duo (aka Santa Rosa) chipset, so it'll leave the Q35 for dead with its spiffing performance. It's packing a 2GHz Intel T7300 CPU, an Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS graphics card, and 2GB of RAM. Unfortunately this plods along at 677MHz instead of the full 800MHz supported by the motherboard.
The Q70 has a widescreen 13.3-inch display, a 300Mbps 802.11n Wi-Fi adaptor, and an adequate, if hardly mind-blowing, 160GB hard drive. What left us scratching our heads, however, was the fact it comes with a CD burner instead of a DVD burner. We asked Samsung's reps if they'd lost their minds, but we're still waiting for a response. Hopefully final samples will come with a proper DVD writer.
On the whole, we're diggin' the Q70. It's small, light (1.9kg), outrageously fast for its size, and only costs £899. Watch out for a full review sooner than soon -- you can read a review of the Asus V1J Santa Rosa laptopin the meantime. -Rory Reid
