Eastman Kodak announced Wednesday that it is licensing its organic light-emitting diode display (OLED) technology to Samsung NEC Mobile Display. The royalty-bearing license is nonexclusive and extends to the joint venture's parent companies, Samsung and NEC. Samsung NEC plans to manufacture and sell cell phones using passive-matrix OLED displays. Terms of the agreement and the availability of cell phones using Samsung NEC's displays were not disclosed.
In related news, SamsungTuesday another joint venture with start-up Vitex Systems to build thin, light OLED displays for the mobile device market. Samsung is one of the leading manufacturers of liquid-crystal displays.
