Samsung E800 slides into the Olympics

Samsung E800 slides into the Olympics

Samsung today launched its E800 mobile phone, a fashion phone that the Korean company has crowned to be the flagship handset of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games -- being the official wireless communications equipment partner.

The E800 is a dual-band phone that boasts a 65K colour TFT screen, VGA camera with flash and self-portrait assist mirror, and support for Java applications.

Like the Siemens SL65, the biggest selling point of this mobile phone will perhaps be its slide-out keypad and compact form (86g and 87 x 43 x 23.5mm). Although relatively small, it has a 4.6cm colour screen and Samsung claims its battery lasts up to three hours of talk time or 180 hours (seven and a half days) standby.

Samsung has not yet announced a local release date or recommended retail price.
