Rumoured Wi-Fi-only Sony Xperia Z Ultra specs leak

With a 6.4-inch screen, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra very definitely falls into the 'phablet' category of Android devices. Well now a Wi-Fi-only model has popped up on benchmarking site AnTuTu.

That would mean you would only be able to send emails and get online when you're in the range of a Wi-Fi hotspot. So either at home, or in a cafe. The same model has also shown itself on the FCC website.

Other than being Wi-Fi-only, the specs look the same. In other words, we're looking at a gargantuan 6.4-inch screen with a resolution of 1,920x1,080 pixels, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor inside, clocked at 2.2GHz. That'll cosy up against 2GB of RAM.

It'll come with 16GB of storage, though that's expandable up to 64GB using a microSD card. It'll have an 8-megapixel snapper on the front, with a 2-megapixel front-facer.

It'll also come running Android 4.2.2 KitKat, according to AnTuTu. That would be one better than the standard version of the Xperia Z Ultra, which has only recently got the upgrade to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. This update also brought with it a few nifty extra features, like the Smart Social Camera originally seen on the Xperia Z1. This adds new camera apps right from within the viewfinder while you're shooting away. Xperia Themes offers a new custom user interface, while Sony has also updated its own brand apps like Messaging, MyXperia, and the media player apps.

I'd expect a Wi-Fi-only Xperia Z Ultra to be cheaper than the standard Xperia Z Ultra, which costs a pretty pricey £600. How much cheaper remains to be seen. Expect to see it rock up at Mobile World Congress in a few weeks.
