'Rudolph' gets the gift of an Honest Trailer

Even the lovable 1964 classic "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" isn't safe from the ridicule of Honest Trailers.

It's bad enough that poor Rudolph was bullied by Santa's other reindeer. But now Honest Trailers has skewered the beloved character's animated musical.

In a YouTube video posted Tuesday, Honest Trailers takes a closer look at the classic 1964 TV special, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" from Rankin and Bass.

Honest Trailers reimagines what the "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" Christmas carol would sound like if it told what actually happened on screen.

"As this movie shows, it's so much weirder than you know," the chorus sings in the Honest Trailer video. "All of the other reindeer treat him like he's got the plague. They send him into exile, because this Santa's full of rage."

The video also points out the weird side story of the elf who hated making toys and just wanted to be a dentist, as well as the oddball prospector, the freaky Yeti monster and the bizarre Island of the Misfit Toys.

Now that Honest Trailers has pointed out all the strange bits of this story, it feels more like a David Lynch tale than a Christmas tale retold every year. In fact, Honest Trailers describes "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" as "'Lord of the Rings' for kids on acid." Ho, ho, whoa!
