Repair terms unequal for Nokia phones

Nokia won't match compensation given to Australian owners of faulty 8210 handsets for neighboring consumers in Asia. Nokia Asia will repair faulty 8210 handsets and renew their warranties at no cost only if they've been manufactured between October 2001 and January 2002, the company said. In Australia, government authorities have ordered Nokia to extend this offer to all owners of 8210s exhibiting problems, regardless of when their phone was built. Nokia said other handsets that had faulty screens were sold in the United States late last year. The company said the "problems are under control," although a few faulty phones are still surfacing in the Americas. ZDNet Australia's Andrew Colley reported from Sydney.
