Quarterdeck, Hayes ally for Net access

Quarterdeck and Hayes struck a software-hardware alliance today to bring a one-stop Internet access solution to users.

Quarterdeck and Hayes struck a software-hardware alliance today to bring a one-stop Internet access solution to users.

The companies agreed to bundle Quarterdeck's InternetSuite 2, a set of navigation utilities, and its WebTalk real-time voice chatting utility with Hayes's Accura line of modems.

Hayes wants the deal to make its modems the first choice for new Internet users since the InternetSuite's Connect and Play feature helps users find an Internet service provider. Quarterdeck wants the deal to make its WebTalk the standard for voice chat over the Internet.

The Hayes-Quarterdeck combo is set to ship in March priced at $199 for an external modem bundle and $179 for an internal modem bundle.

Terms of the agreement between the two companies were not disclosed.
