Sony will be releasing a new PS2 bundle which includes Gran Turismo 3 and an extra controller to commemorate the PlayStation's 10th birthday in Australia.

The original PlayStation console was first launched locally on 15 September 1995, and cost AU$699.95. In comparison, the latest PS2 Hot Pack bundle will retail for AU$299.95 and includes a slimline console, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and Gran Turismo 3, an 8MB memory card, and two controllers.

More than 2.5 million original PlayStations have now been sold in Australia. The PlayStation 2, which debuted in 2000, has now sold 1.8 million units.

"It's been a great journey, back in 1995 we launched the original PlayStation with a team of just seven and today we have sold over 4.3 million consoles to Australians," Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand managing director Michael Ephraim says. "From day one classics such as Ridge Racer, WipEout and Tekken, we are now experiencing the development of technologies such as the EyeToy camera, SingStar and Buzz franchises."
