Carly Fiorina steps down from the top spot at HP after five and a half years.
HP under Fiorina
Carly Fiorina, seen here speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, guided Hewlett-Packard through its tempestuous merger with Compaq. She has stepped down as chief executive and chairman of HP.
At a press conference in March 2002, Fiorina declared victory in the Compaq battle, saying, "It's now time for all of us--those who supported the merger and those who opposed it--to pull together for the benefit of the company."
When it became clear the HP-Compaq deal would go through, dissident board member Walter Hewlett said, "The only thing I have taken personally is the drop in the stock price." He spoke at a press conference in March 2002.
