Philips to build new LCD chip

Philips Semiconductor announced on Monday a new triple-input controller chip for liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors and projectors. The SAA6714 controller integrates analog-to-digital conversion of input signals and includes the ability to display and control on-screen menus. By integrating these features, Philips said, manufacturers can reduce costs and simplify production processes. The company will begin limited manufacturing of the chip this quarter and full-scale production in the fourth quarter.
