Relying on people's self control wasn't enough.

A Care 2 petition has quickly raised more than 1,700 supporters asking developer Niantic Labs to remove the Holocaust Museum from Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go is an augmented-reality game for iOS and Android that tasks people with exploring real-life locations to find and catch imaginary monsters. One of those real-life locations is the US Holocaust Museum in Washington, a memorial to the victims of Nazism.

Museum officials have understandably asked people to stop and are reportedly working to get the location removed from the game. This petition looks to help that cause.

It carefully acknowledges that Pokemon Go on its own is a fun and worthwhile game, but that it doesn't belong in a place like the Holocaust Museum.

Niantic did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
