PCI Express switching spec moves forward

The Arapahoe Working Group, a networking industry association, announced on Tuesday that it has completed draft 1.0 of an advanced switching specification for the PCI Express standard. The new spec creates a standard method for connecting chips and circuit boards inside networking equipment. It is meant to cut the cost and improve the performance of networking equipment.

The working group said it has formed a separate group, the Advanced Switching Interconnect Special Interest Group (ASI-SIG), to advance the standard's industrywide adoption. The companies that govern the ASI-SIG will include Agere Systems, Alcatel, Huawei Technologies, Intel, Siemens, Vitesse Semiconductor and Xilinx.
