Vandals turn Soviet-era star into SpongeBob's Patrick Star

Actually, the animated sidekick looks pretty good up there, but he'd better get back to Bikini Bottom before he dries out.

Patrick Star is, shall we say, one of the dimmer cartoon sidekicks around. While he's (mostly) loyal to pal SpongeBob SquarePants, he's certainly no Mr. Peabody. Once, when SpongeBob switched to round pants, Patrick didn't even recognize his best friend.

So it's a pretty amazing feat that Patrick somehow made it from the underwater land of Bikini Bottom to a spire high above the Russian city of Voronezh. But according to the above tweet from the RIA Voronzeh news site, Patrick is back in the (former) USSR.

On October 25, vandals gave a Soviet-era star on a Voronezh tower an unwanted paint job, transforming it into pink Patrick in his green-and-purple swim trunks. Restoring it will cost 100,000 rubles ($1,530, £1,225, $AU2,031), according to news site RT.com.

Nickelodeon's official Patrick Star Twitter account hasn't mentioned his Russian homage, but in a tweet sent out a week before the vandalism, Patrick seemed to have no idea where he was.
