"Pacific Rim 2" is one step closer to reality. Steven S. DeKnight, the executive producer and head writer for "Daredevil," has agreed to direct the film.
The film will mark DeKnight's feature directorial debut. Del Toro will stay on as a producer of the film, helping DeKnight guide his vision to create a compelling sequel to the 2013 film.
DeKnight is best known for creating the "Spartacus" TV series for Starz. He also served as head writer and executive producer on the hit Netflix series "Daredevil," and directed that show's intense and highly rated season finale.
The original "Pacific Rim" grossed more than $411 million (about £295 million, AU$575 million) worldwide in 2013. The sci-fi movie had copious amounts of mecha vs. monsters action, and "Pacific Rim 2" will likely bring more of the same.
No additional details on the plot of the film were revealed at this time, and we don't know if it's still on track for the previously announced release date of August 4, 2017. We hope to learn more about this monsters vs. mecha movie as the release date nears.
Until then, we'll do as del Toro advised on Twitter and "dream of Kaijus and Mecha."
