Our Google I/O preview: Why we think VR is going to dominate (The 3:59, Ep. 46)

We look at the big trends for this week's Google I/O developer conference, including virtual reality, Project Tango and that rumored Echo-like "Chirp."

James Martin/CNET

Google is going to bet big on virtual reality.

The online search giant will hold the keynote address for its Google I/O developer conference on Wednesday, and VR is likely to be a big topic at the event. We're expecting to see some hardware, and there's buzz about software in the form of Android VR.

But virtual reality isn't the only big topic we expect to hear about. Google should talk a bit more about Project Tango, its interior mapping technology, as well as a rumored rival to Amazon's Echo.

The 3:59 gives you bite-size news and analysis about the top stories of the day, brought to you by CNET Executive Editor Roger Cheng, Senior Writer Ben Fox Rubin and Producer Bryan VanGelder.
