Openwave releases new gateway product

Openwave Systems has released an updated version of its mobile gateway, a server computer which wireless telephone service providers use to offer next-generation phone services and features such as mobile e-mail or the ability to surf the wireless Web. The new gateway comes on the heels of the release of Openwave's latest microbrowser software, which is popular in the Internet-ready handsets of many cell phone makers. However, the news didn't bolster the company's shares, which plunged 16 percent Wednesday after three analysts downgraded the stock.
