Seven new Nikon compact cameras will make their debut soon, with waterproof models and a huge superzoom in the mix.
The waterproof range gets two additions in the form of the Coolpix AW110 and S31. The AW110 is the more sophisticated of the two, rated for 18m underwater and shockproof to 2m, with built-in Wi-Fi and GPS. The S31 is more of an amphibious-shaped snapper, waterproof to 5m and shockproof to 1.2m.
For the wildlife and travel photographer, Nikon also has the 42x optical zoom P520, which reaches the 35mm equivalent of a 1000mm telephoto lens. As well as manual controls and a rotating 3.2-inch LCD screen, there's also wireless connectivity. However, this is through an optional extra adapter rather than built in to the camera.
Looking for a long zoom in a small body? The S9500 and S9400 are also new models, featuring a 22x and 18x optical zoom, respectively. The S9500 is equipped with an OLED screen as well as built-in Wi-Fi.
Photographers who like cameras that use AA batteries will want to take a look at the L820 with a 30x optical zoom and 22.5mm wide-angle lens. Finally, at the lower end of the scale, the budget Coolpix L27 has a 5x optical zoom and basic controls for beginners.
Nikon Australia no longer issues official retail prices for its products, though you can expect to see these cameras released over the next few months.
