New virus protection for handhelds

McAfee released on Friday its VirusScan Wireless 2.0 for handheld computers that use the Palm, Microsoft Pocket PC or Symbian EPOC operating systems. For Palm OS-based handhelds only, the new software can be stored directly on the handheld. The software can thus protect Palm OS-based handhelds from viruses in infrared-transferred files and software, as well as in data retrieved via the wireless Internet. Palm's devices, Handspring's Visor handhelds and Sony's Clie use the Palm OS. The antivirus software starts at $28 per unit in quantities of 500, according to McAfee.
