iTunes 'could cost $2.49 per song' Macworld UK reports that the major labels are looking at increasing the price of iTunes Music Store downloads to as much as $2.49 ? with experts predicting the move could kill the service. "The US record industry believe iTunes song are too cheap, and the five top labels (Universal Music Group, EMI, BMG, Sony and Warner Music) are discussing a price hike ranging from $1.25 to $2.49 per song." WWDC conference schedule, pre-conference sessions Apple has posted preliminary conference schedule for WWDC, as well as a listing of the full slate of evening events planned. There are also a number of free pre-conference workshops scheduled for Sunday, but Apple says "space is limited, and these valuable bonus sessions are always popular." More.

Legislator seeks to block Gmail News.com reports that a California Democrat blasts Google's free e-mail service as an invasion of privacy and "a direct-marketing opportunity" for the company. The Senator said that it should be illegal for a company to scan the text of its customers' e-mail correspondence and display relevant advertising--even if customers explicitly agree to the practice in exchange for a gigabyte of storage. DOJ seizes computers in piracy raid Reuters reports that investigators seized 200 computers across the globe to break up online piracy networks that distribute copyrighted music, movies and software, the U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday. "The sweep, carried out in 27 U.S. states and 10 foreign countries, targeted covert 'warez' groups that distribute computer games and other works before they are officially released, the Justice Department said."
