Nerdy nuptials

We can all go home now: Comdex is over, and Elvis has left the building. But before he left, The King paused at Microsoft's Geekfest long enough to perform a couple of marriages and sing a tune or two, thankyouverymuch.

We can all go home now: Comdex is over; Elvis has left the building. But before he left, The King paused at Microsoft's Geekfest long enough to perform a couple of marriages and sing a tune or two, thankyouverymuch.

Microsoft picked up the tab for anyone who wanted an instant wedding and an instant annulment during its Geekfest bash, held in the Little Chapel of Flowers here at Comdex last night. Ready to assist its developers in any way possible, the company had to hack something out, so to speak, as the party goers were indeed a bunch of geeks and 90 percent male.

Despite the daunting ratio, two couples did step forward to have Elvis bless their existing unions. Before promising to adopt each other's hound dogs, never to wear their blue suede shoes in the rain, and blah blah blah, the lucky couples were preceded down the aisle by Dr. Ruth. Acting as flower girl, the famous sex therapist twinkle-toed down toward the altar scattering rose petals in her wake.

A Microsoft employee was later overheard answering the question, "How did you get Dr. Ruth to do that?" Another replied, "The same way you get Dr. Ruth to do anything: Pay her." 1,000K 1,000K

Microserf Jenn Parsons, however, was late to the altar. The bride arrived mid-ceremony in full wedding regalia. A man in a blue Microsoft shirt leaned over and hissed at her, "You're late." She shot back, "That's why I'm getting married." Ba-dum-bum.

The reception banquet, while not sumptuous, was appropriate: beer and Domino's pizza.

Elvis, Microserfs, Dr. Ruth. Either we're beginning to hallucinate, or Comdex must be drawing to an end. Either way, it was a pleasant trip.

Elvis: Fabulous
