The fallout over Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 phone continues, with a new agreement between the electronics company and the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards.
This agreement, which covers phones to be sold in South Korea, requires that every new battery for the Note 7 be x-rayed by the battery supplier, and then additionally tested by Samsung before being used in new phones. Additionally, an initial deadline for Note 7 owners in South Korea to exchange their potentially defective phones has been extended until the end of September.
The agreement applies only to products and consumers in South Korea, where Samsung has sold more than 400,000 phones before the recall. In the US, the Consumer Products Safety Commission has issued a formal recall for the phone. There is no hard deadline yet for returning a Note 7 to the carrier or store it was purchased from, and replacement phones are shipping to retailers now.
