An Internet scripting language called Visual Basic Script was today announced by Microsoft. The language is based on Microsoft Visual Basic and will be licensed for free to application, browser, and tool vendors, according to Microsoft officials.
Visual Basic Script is designed to create online content on the Web. The language allows developers to link and automate objects like Java applets. Visual Basic Script is compatible with the Visual Basic for Applications scripting language and Visual Basic 4.0.
Microsoft will propose to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the Internet Engineering Task Force that Visual Basic Script be used as an open Net scripting language standard.
