Microsoft is committed to getting the Windows 10 operating system on devices around the world, and we got a glimpse of the the next stage of that expansion at an event in New York City on Tuesday. Microsoft announced the latest version of it's Surface Pro line with the Surface Pro 4 , a 2-in-1 hybrid device, and a pair of smartphones: The Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. And then there was the surprise reveal of the Surface Book , Microsoft's first laptop.

Microsoft's Terry Myerson, executive vice president of the Windows and Devices group, announced that Windows 10 has already been installed on more than 110 million devices devices since its launch on July 29. The company's ultimate goal is to get Windows 10 running on 1 billion devices with two to three years, a number it hopes to hit as partners like HP, Lenovo and Asus bring their own devices to market.

Windows 10 users have been rather active in the last few months. Myerson reports that more than 650 billion webpages have been visited with Microsoft Edge , the browser Microsoft developed in the hopes of finally putting Internet Explorer to rest. Gamers have been busy too: users have streamed a mind-boggling 120 years of gameplay from their Xbox One consoles, to their Windows 10 devices.

Microsoft's voice-assistant Cortana has fielded over 1 billion questions since making her debut in the OS. This sort of engagement with users is going to be crucial for Microsoft's expansion goals, as Cortana's abilities will only grow as she collects data and learns more about the world around you.

There's good news for developers, too: there've been over 1 billion visits to the Windows app store, and developer revenue has reportedly increased four-fold since Windows 10 rolled out. "Netflix users are now spending more time on the Netflix app, than the Netflix website," Terry Myerson said. And major players are coming aboard, too: Facebook has announced that official Windows 10 apps are coming for Facebook, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger.

Myerson also remarked that businesses are also getting on board, with over 8 million business PCs already running Windows 10. A general reluctance to leave Windows 7 ( or even Windows XP) proved detrimental to Windows 8's expansion. But according to Myerson, 50% of Microsoft's managed customers are reportedly already starting their Windows 10 trials: "IT Pros are telling us that the security built into Windows 10 is critical to keeping our business safe," Myseron said.

Microsoft aims to continue this momentum with new devices like the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, shipping later this year, and the Surface Pro 4. See all of today's Microsoft news.
