Management changes at Netcom

Hutchison is out as senior vice president and a new leadership team forms.

Don Hutchison, a senior vice president of Netcom Online Communication Services, has left his position at the company but will be retained as a consultant.

In a press release, the Internet service provider said Hutchison's departure is "effective immediately." Ben Slick, vice president and general manager of business development, will assume Hutchison's responsibilities for developing strategic partnerships.

Hutchison joined Netcom in May 1994 as vice president of marketing and sales. He was promoted to senior VP of strategic partnerships in March of this year.

"Through my role at Netcom, I was fortunate to be in a position to help Internet awareness grow to the broad form of communication it is today," Hutchison said in the release. "Now that Netcom is a well-established player in the industry, I plan to turn my attention to helping others build their business around delivering practical solutions using Internet technology for efficient communications."

Also Saturday, Netcom said it has appointed four executives to a leadership committee that will report to Chief Executive Officer and Chairman David Garrison.

"The net effect of this change is to reduce the number of executives reporting directly to me by half, enabling faster decision making, focus, and more responsiveness in this rapidly changing market," said Garrison. The committee will include Mike Kallet, senior VP of technology, operations, and support; Thom Weatherford, chief financial officer; Scott Wills, senior vice president of sales, marketing, and services; and Eric Spivey, president of Netcom International.
