Losses accompany growth at Infoseek

The Web directory posted second-quarter losses of $4.7 million.

Web-based directory Infoseek announced second-quarter losses of $4.7 million, the latest Internet company to report more growth and more losses.

The net loss, which translates to 52 cents per share, is based on $3.3 million in revenue for the quarter, a 90 percent jump over the previous three months ending March 31. Net loss for the previous quarter was $3.6 million, or 14 cents per share.

In the second quarter of 1995, the company posted a loss of $621,000 and revenue of $54,000.

Shares of Infoseek closed down 1/8 of a point today at 7.
