Linksys ups reach of wireless networks

New antennas are meant to address the No. 1 complaint of consumers: networks that don't reach far enough.

Gear maker Linksys on Wednesday released antennas that increase the range of wireless networks. The antennas are to be used with select Linksys Wireless-B and Wireless-G products and address the No. 1 complaint of consumers: networks that don't reach far enough. The $59.99 TNC Connector Antenna works with devices that have two antennas, such as access points and routers. The $59.99 SMA Connector Antenna works with devices that have one antenna, such as PC Cards and bridges. The company declined to estimate how much farther the new antennas would allow networks to reach but said that they more than triple the signal output level.

Linksys is also releasing $29.99 stands for the new antennas. The company is a division of networking giant Cisco Systems and sells gear into the consumer market.
