Lexar recalls fiery Firefly

Lexar JumpDrive Firefly

Lexar is recalling all JumpDrive Firefly products sold between April 1 and May 30 2006, due to a "potential to overheat".

The device, which comes in 256MB, 512MB, 1GB and 2GB flavours, has been removed from store shelves and Lexar is asking any Australians who have purchased the device to "stop using the product immediately and return the product to Lexar head office for a replacement".

Lexar will issue affected users with either a replacement Firefly drive or another model JumpDrive of the same capacity, depending on user preference. If the former is chosen, Lexar estimates that the wait time will be up to two weeks.

Lexar claims that only 325 units of the product were sold during April and May, and that there have been "no consumer reports of overheating" as yet. Rather, it insists that the recall results from "ongoing product testing by Lexar".

For additional information, contact Lexar on 1800 106 256 or visit this page on its Web site.
