When hackers leaked nude photos and more private data of "Ghostbusters" actor Leslie Jones online, she didn't stand idly by. She demanded that Twitter offer users greater protection against abuse from trolls and hackers. Even Homeland Security investigated the hack.
But sometimes the best way to put trolls and hackers in their place is by facing them head on with a sense of humor. On this weekend's "Saturday Night Live," Jones went on "Weekend Update" to talk about her ordeal with hackers and online abuse.
"If you want to see Leslie Jones naked, just ask," Jones said. "What I'm trying to say is, if you want to hurt anybody these days, you're gonna have to do way more than leak their nudes or call them names. You can't embarrass me more than I have embarrassed myself."
Jones went on to recount her most embarrassing private moments, like her fake wedding to the lead singer of R&B group DeBarge, and that time Prince mistook her for Chris Rock.
"Do you think some words on the internet can hurt me?" Jones asked. "I once had a crazy bi**h try to beat me with a shovel at a bus stop because I took her spot on the bench. Now that's a troll. Real trolls ain't tapping on keyboards, they swingin' shovels."
All kidding aside, Jones had one last thing to say to the hackers out there. "Trust me, at some point you stop being embarrassed and you start being you," Jones said. "And I have been me for 49 years. Because the only person who can hack me is me."
