Kickstarter project Forge is what you get if you combine Call of Duty with World of Warcraft.
If you've ever thought to yourself, "man, this third-person war shooter needs more wizards", Forge by Dark Vale Games might be the solution. It mixes up third-person PvP shooting with a rich fantasy setting, based on the Unreal engine.
According to its Kickstarter page, it aims to provide the depth of an MMO setting, while bearing in mind the requirements of players who may not have the time to spend six hours a night raiding, removing the endless, rat-killing grind of MMOG levelling.
And, said Dark Vale Games, it will be accessible to all.
It is built with a focus on fun and accessibility, but with the attention to detail and balance of a deep, competitive game. Whether you're new to first person shooters and MMOs or a veteran, Forge will be easy to pick up, yet offer much to learn as you play.
The studio wanted to build a game with just the fun bits, so the game will be built around fantasy MMOG classes (there are six: Assassin, Pathfinder, Pyromancer, Shaman, Warden and Ravager) and abilities, and whether you succeed or fail is based solely on your skill.
Perhaps the best part is that there is no ongoing cost and no required DLC, and Dark Vale has partnered with Gameservers.com to provide hosting all around the world.
The target is US$300,000, and if you want a copy of the game, it's a minimum pledge of US$45. We consider that a bargain.
