J.K. Rowling unveils new wand designs for Harry Potter play

Harry Potter play "The Cursed Child" means new accessories for some of the series most beloved characters.

Harry Potter fans are starved for new material now that both the book series and the movie series wrapped up. Author J.K. Rowling is delivering with an official sequel in the form of a stage play. "The Cursed Child" opens for preview performances in London in late May, but Rowling is busy building excitement on Twitter with the reveal of new wand designs for the main characters.

Rowling posted the sketch on Monday. Harry's wand in the movies looks like a gnarled piece of wood. For the play, it takes on a vein-like structure inspired by holly leaves. The image also reveals the wand designs for Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley. Draco's wand is crafted like a saber inspired by hawthorn while Hermione gets a vine-like decoration. Ron's chestnut wand evokes his trademark sweater costume.

Most theater-goers probably won't get up close and personal with the dainty props, but the nature-inspired designs show just how much thought and work is going into the details for the play.
