iPad 2 Plus could be the next iPad, with a high-resolution screen

It's a case of plus ça change for the next Apple iPad. The new tablet is set to be just a small upgrade, perhaps going by the name iPad 2 Plus -- or if you prefer, iPad 2+.

It's a case of plus ça change for the next Apple iPad. The new tablet is set to be just a small upgrade, perhaps going by the name iPad 2 Plus -- or if you prefer, iPad 2+.

IBTimes reports that an analyst reckons Apple is shopping around for a screen with 250-300 pixels per inch, up from the current model's 132ppi. That gives us déjà vu after earlier hints that the new tablet will boast an eye-popping retina display; let's just ignore the rumours of a 3D screen.

Apple is rumoured to be planning a September launch for both the iPad 3 and iPhone 5. Industry-watchers predict Apple is planning to launch a new iPhone and iPad every six months to counter the explosion in numbers of Android phones.

Rumours abound about the next iPad and the next iPhone, the fabled iPhone 5. They may include an 8-megapixel camera, a location-based social network, speech recognition, or 4G web surfing. Word on the street is that the iPhone 5 is already delayed, because it's so slim that building it is extra-complicated.

Apple isn't the only company rumoured to be getting a little extra je ne sais quoi: the HP TouchPad is getting beefed-up, and there's talk of a Samsung Galaxy S 2 Plus too. Apparently 'Plus' is the new nom du jour, also lending itself to the new Google+ social network.

Before the next iPad and iPhone land, a new MacBook Air will be released any day now, giving the latest Mac OS X Lion its first roar.

Anyone who does blab about future models should watch themselves: three people are in prison in China for stealing a look at the iPad 2, and a chap who whispered his insider knowledge of the first iPad faces 30 years in jail for his indiscretions.

But what will the next iPad and iPhone 5 look like? Here's a round-up of our favourite iPhone 5 mock-ups.

There's a lot of French in this story isn't there? No idea why. Tête de veau, Rodney!
