Chipmaker Intel and cellular carrier T-Mobile USA announced Monday a joint marketing campaign to promote T-Mobile's Wi-Fi service. The two companies are driving awareness of "hot spot" service, in which notebook users can wirelessly connect to the Internet and to corporate networks while in airports, bookstores and coffee shops. Bellevue, Wash.-based T-Mobile has been working with Starbucks to establish Wi-Fi hot spots in coffee shops. T-Mobile recentlyits monthly and daily service fees.
Intel is expected to announce on March 12 its latest mobile technology,, which includes a mobile processor, chipset and built-in Wi-Fi capability. Part of the marketing campaign will include tests verifying that Intel's Centrino technology works on T-Mobile's network.
