SAN JOSE, Calif.--In a wide-ranging presentation, Intel chief executive Craig Barrett today shared his vision of computing with one of the chipmaker's most important audiences: software developers.

Speaking at the yearly Intel Developer Forum here, Barrett forecast that business-to-business commerce would soon reach $7 trillion yearly and tried to persuade code writers that Intel processors will be the technology of choice for such transactions.

The former Stanford University professor also tackled the growing debate over wired computers vs. wireless access devices and broached the importance of "peer-to-peer" computing.
