I flew home on a Hello Kitty plane and loved it

Flying across the planet in a Hello Kitty themed aircraft felt strange, but I'd be lying if I didn't say it wasn't great.

Despite a flood taking out the the air conditioning at the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, I was really excited to finally be able to hop on Eva Air's BR216 Hello Kitty flight to head home after Computex.

It wasn't because I was a massive Hello Kitty fan (I'm not). It was more because I was sweating buckets thanks to the airport's lack of air conditioning -- so a cool, sweat-free BR216 was particularly alluring. But once I boarded the plane, the cuteness of Sanrio's iconic 40 year-old cat really got me.

From Hello Kitty menus to toilet paper, being surrounded by the adorable glory of this white cat person has an undeniable impact. It helps explain why I spent $14 (£10, AU$20) on a Hello Kitty jigsaw puzzle. You know, for the wife. It wasn't for me (it was).

Worth a cool $5 billion a year, Hello Kitty is big business. She's also actually not a cat, but a cat person, according to Sanrio. Her real name is Kitty White and she's an English girl that lives just outside of London. And the crazy thing? She has a pet cat called Charmmy Kitty.

So now that you know who she really is and are no doubt planning to take one of these Hello Kitty flights, the good news is that it does fly to the US. The bad news it's only to one place -- Houston, Texas. My advice though: If you want all the Hello Kitty you can get, skip economy and go straight for business if you can afford it.

Business offers a lot more Hello Kitty for your buck, including Hello Kitty dishes and toiletries. My economy fare did come with a very nice set of Hello Kitty utensils, which I of course kept.
