HP networks workgroups

Hewlett-Packard announces new networking products that underscore the company's focus on the workgroup market.

Hewlett-Packard today announced new networking products that underscore the company's focus on the workgroup market.

The company announced three new switching hubs and a switch module. The AdvanceStack Switching Hub 12R, 24R and 24T are targeted at small businesses, but offer two expansion slots for network growth. By adding the AdvanceStack 10Base-T Switching Module and Management Pack, a stack can become fully switched.

The new hubs also can be segmented to support four separate LANs. Ports can be moved across LAN segments via the management packs.

HP also announced the AdvanceStack Assistant, replacing HP Interconnect Manager for Windows or OpenView/Windows. The tool provides traffic management, troubleshooting, and device support for HP LAN networking products. The AdvanceStack Assistant comes with all HP networking products, or can be purchased separately for $499. The product is expected to be available in October.

The new AdvanceStack switching hubs start at $849, with management packs available starting at $1,319. A new 10Base-T switching module costs $949 with a 10Base-T management pack priced at $649. The new AdvanceStack products will be available in November.

HP Also announced an FDDI and 10Base-T module for the AdvanceStack Switch 2000, adding flexibility to the company's LAN switch line.
