HP licenses Java download software

Hewlett-Packard has licensed Pixo's Mobile Download Server software, a package that lets telecommunications customers send Java programs wirelessly to cell phones, the companies said Monday. Under the license, HP will provide wireless products and services to mobile phone companies in the Asia-Pacific region. Java lets programs run on a variety of devices, such as several companies' cell phones, while shielding programmers from differences between the systems. Pixo's software competes with packages from 4thpass and others.
