HP executive eyed for federal post

Phil Bond, director of federal public policy programs at Hewlett-Packard, will be nominated for the position of undersecretary of commerce for technology at the U.S. Department of Commerce, the White House announced. In the position, Bond would be responsible for technology policy, space commercialization and next-generation transportation vehicles. While at HP, Bond led the formulation of HP positions on U.S. domestic public policy issues, including e-commerce, trade, the environment, education, procurement and taxation. He also managed HP's interactions with Congress, the White House and other federal offices, according to an HP statement.
