In response to the April 26 Newsmaker, "In the eye of the H-1B visa storm":
I read the article in which you interviewed Mr. Chugh with some interest, as I am a foreign worker on an H-1B visa myself. I agree with Mr. Chugh's statements 100 percent.
To compare my situation with that of an "indentured servant" is completely ludicrous. I earn the same pay for the same job as other, non-H-1B workers, I can market my skills to other companies, and I have the same benefits as other workers. It is my choice as to whether I sign up with a company that requires a
"finders fee" (I did not).
Even though as an H-1B holder I would stand to gain if courts uphold the initial results against Mr. Chugh's client, I firmly believe this would be very unfair to the employment agencies, and I hope the courts reverse the earlier ruling on appeal.
Thanks for your article!
