You'll still need roads: Catch a Lyft in the DeLorean in NYC on Wednesday

You won't be able to travel to the past or future, but if you're in New York City maybe you can catch a free ride in a "Back to the Future"-style DeLorean on Wednesday courtesy of Lyft and Verizon.

If you happen to be in New York City on Wednesday, you can try to catch a free Lyft in the time-traveling DeLorean from "Back to the Future" courtesy of Lyft and Verizon on what they're calling #WhyNotWednesday.

On Wednesday, the Lyft app will add a "McFly Mode" toggle for users in the Big Apple, which will let Manhattanites request a free 15-minute-long ride in a DeLorean. Sadly, the cars themselves aren't equipped with Flux Capacitors and will stay under 88 miles per hour (about 142 kilometers per hour), so the only time-traveling you'll do is forward about 15 minutes until your ride is over.

But it should still be pretty awesome to ride around the city like Marty and the Doc in the DeLorean.

Rides will be available between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET in Manhattan, but you'll want to act quickly to secure your ride. The lines are probably going to be pretty heavy, as Marty would say.

The Lyft promo is intended to celebrate "Back to the Future" Day on October 21, 2015, the same day Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled to the future in "Back to the Future II." AKA tomorrow.
