Joining a growing field of software companies providing real-world guides in cyberspace, Etak released a suite of Internet map products today that gives Web designers the software tools to build geographical maps to individual specifications.
The E-Map View suite of products includes map templates of the United States and customization tools. The E-Map Locate tool lets designers place specific addresses on a map. E-Map Path lets visitors to an E-Map-enabled Web site find the easiest route between two locations with step-by-step driving directions. E-Map Route also maps out the best routes between multiple locations.
Companies that purchase a basic E-Map View license host the map service on their own servers. The flat fee starts at $25,000 for local-area templates, but costs could rise significantly depending upon the tools purchased and the extent of the geographical area covered.
For smaller businesses that need less coverage area, Etak is offering the EZ-Map service. With EZ-Map, Etak creates the map according to the customer's specifications and hosts it on Etak servers. The connection from a customer site to the Etak server is transparent to the end user, according to an Etak spokesman. EZ-Map fees are transaction-based but start at a minimum of $1,000 a month for a commercial site.
