Get a free $3 credit to Amazon MP3

Who says you can't get something for nothing? If you act fast and click faster, you can score a $3 Amazon voucher -- no strings attached.

I'm not sure what's "local" about this deal, but I don't care. AmazonLocal is giving away free music from Amazon's MP3 store -- which is decidedly global (or at least national).

Specifically, you can get a free $3 Amazon MP3 credit voucher to spend on any music. (The link takes you to Oakland County, which is local for me, but it should work for anyone.)

The only catch, if you can call it that, is that you have to use the voucher by July 12. Also, you'll need Amazon's MP3 Downloader utility if you want to download the songs to your hard drive.

Alternately, you can listen to them in your Web browser, or stream them to your mobile device using Amazon's new Cloud Player app (Android | iOS).

To get the deal, just click the AmazonLocal link, then click Get Voucher. You should get an e-mail confirmation soon thereafter. Use the Your Vouchers link to access all your AmazonLocal vouchers. Click View Code and you'll see the code, which you'll need to copy and then paste into the Amazon MP3 promo page. Then just shop for 3 dollars' worth of music! (There are a lot of steps involved here, obviously, but it's all pretty straightforward, and clearly documented.)

Want to get the most bang from your three free bucks? Amazon is currently offering 20 popular songs for 25 cents apiece. Among them: Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe," Katy Perry's "California Gurls," and Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay." You can get 12 of these without spending a penny.

I'm not sure how many vouchers Amazon plans to give away, but the promo page does say "limited quantity available." Grab one before they're gone!

Bonus deal: Today only, and while supplies last, Woot has a refurbished HP G7-1326DX 17-inch quad-core laptop for $369.99, plus $5 for shipping. Specs include not only a quad-core AMD processor and 17.3-inch screen, but also 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. The warranty is just 90 days, but, man, that's a lot of computer for very little coin.
