'Rogue One' or 'Force Awakens'? George Lucas has a preference

It's always good to have an endorsement from the Star Wars creator himself.

"Rogue One" has the George Lucas seal of approval.

Wondering if "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will be any good? Take heart in an endorsement from the man himself, Star Wars creator George Lucas.

Director Gareth Edwards told reporters over the weekend that Lucas only recently saw the completed film, and gave it the thumbs-up, CinemaBlend reports.

"I don't want to put words into his mouth, but I can honestly say that I can die happy now," Edwards said. "(Lucas) really liked the movie, so it meant a lot. No offense to anyone here, but it was the most important review to me. ... I will take that conversation to my grave. It was a real privilege. His opinion means the world to me."

You may think Lucas would naturally gush over everything with the Star Wars name on it, but remember, he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, so he's a bit more removed from the filmmaking process. And he was a bit more reticent when 2015's "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" came out, saying that "the fans are going to love it," but not giving it a personal rave, and noting that he would've taken a different approach.

"Rogue One" hits theaters on December 15 in Australia, and December 16 in the US and UK.
