Gearworks grabs $11 million

Software maker Gearworks announced Tuesday that it raised $11 million in its second funding round. New investor Ignite Group co-led the round with BlueStream Ventures, which led the company's $6.2 million first round in 2000. DRW Venture Partners also contributed to the recent funding round. Minneapolis-based Gearworks received $600,000 in seed funding from Carlin Ventures in 1999. The company makes software that connects dispatched workers, such as delivery-truck drivers, cable TV technicians and plumbers to their companies' internal computer network. The software runs on standard wireless devices and allows people to manage billing transactions, collect data and access customer information from remote locations.
