Gears of War 4: See the gruesome effects of new Dropshot weapon

Land a perfect headshot with the Dropshot and you will drill into your foe's skull, decapitating them with their body convulsing before it slumps over.

While everyone will get a chance to check out Gears of War 4's multiplayer later this month when the beta starts, developer The Coalition has now shared some footage in the form of a gruesome death animation.

Check out the Vine below from executive producer Rod Fergusson to see the "Dropshot headshot," while more details follow further down.

The Dropshot is a new weapon for Gears of War 4 that sounds particularly devastating. It is capable of drilling into your enemy's skull and ripping their head off--and that's not all.

"The Dropshot fires an aerial mine that floats over the battlefield in a straight line as long as you hold the trigger," according to Game Informer, which got to see the weapon early. "The moment you let go, the mine spins downward violently. If it hits the ground, it drills for a second before exploding, blowing anything nearby into chunks. If you manage to nail a direct hit on the enemy, it drills directly into their head, decapitating them while their body convulses until the mine explodes."

The Gears of War 4 beta starts on April 18 for people who have played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, while all Xbox Live Gold members will get to jump in starting April 25. Check out this post for more on how you can get in.

On the subject of multiplayer, Fergusson recently said Gears of War's multiplayer--since Gears of War 1--has been "under-served," and explained why Gears of War 4 will change that.

The Gears of War 4 release date is set for October 11 for Xbox One. A PC version may also be released, but nothing has been confirmed at this stage.
