Former trade representative joins Intel board

Charlene Barshefsky, a senior international partner at the law firm of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering in Washington, has been elected to Intel's board of directors, the company said on Thursday. Barshefsky was a United States trade representative and a member of the cabinet from 1997 to 2001. Trade is one of Intel's main concerns these days as roughly 70 percent of its revenue comes from overseas sales and an increasing number of its employees work outside North America.

The Santa Clara, Calif., chipmaker also announced that longtime board member Dr. Winston Chen will retire from its board of directors in May. Charles Young, another board member, will also leave in May, bringing the number of board members to 11.
